Special Improvement District

JERSEY CITY, NJ – Even as most city residents are indoors adhering to social distancing measures and “stay at home” orders, there is still steady foot traffic in and out of the Journal Square PATH station and around the exterior plaza, according to business leaders in the area.

Those business leaders, working in unity under the banner of the Journal Square Special Improvement District (JSSID), want residents to know that critical steps are being taken to keep the area clean and virus free in response to the public health crisis.

“We’re focused on disinfecting the amenities that our neighbors touch the most—traffic signals, mail boxes, trash cans, seating areas, bike racks and digital kiosks are all being disinfected regularly throughout the day” says Rudy Kucukyantiran, Director of Operations for the JSSID.

Chris Bernardo, Administrator of the JSSID, added that Journal Square is a “critical connection point between Jersey City and the rest of the metropolitan area” and that as many of those still in and out of the space may be essential workers traveling to the frontlines in the battle to contain further spread the cleanliness of transit hubs is critical.

“SID services are essential—it’s critical that we keep garbage off the streets and keep these amenities disinfected,” Jordan Galatz, Chairman of the JSSID added. “I’m proud of our team and the role that we’re able to play.
