Business Owners
Opening a business in Journal Square? We’re here to support you.
Welcome to Journal Square
The Journal Square Restoration Corporation (JSRC) is the District Management Corporation for the Journal Square Special Improvement District (SID)—the largest of Jersey City’s four SIDs. Formed in 1995, JSRC is a private, not-for-profit organization representing business owners, commercial property owners, and institutional interests within the district.
Within the SID, property and business owners levy a self-imposed assessment to finance improvements, supplemental services, and programs that strengthen the district and support economic growth.
JSRC’s annual work plan is funded by the SID assessment, private contributions, and matching Urban Enterprise Zone (UEZ) funds approved by Jersey City Council. The plan supports district-wide advocacy, maintenance and security programs, year-round outreach, marketing, and capital improvements that benefit the entire Journal Square community.
District Cleaning & Maintenance
JSRC provides consistent, district-wide maintenance to ensure Journal Square remains clean, safe, and welcoming. Our services include:
-
- Daily sidewalk sweeping and litter removal
- Graffiti removal and power washing
- Trash collection and maintenance of public spaces
- Supplemental sanitation to complement city services
Safety & Quality of Life
In addition to cleaning services, JSRC invests in programs that enhance quality of life for everyone in the district. We work closely with local law enforcement and city partners to address safety concerns, support supplemental patrols, and create a secure, accessible environment for businesses and the public.
Community Engagement & Business Promotion
JSRC promotes the vitality of Journal Square through:
-
- Marketing campaigns and storytelling that highlight district businesses and activities
- Partnerships with community organizations and stakeholders to increase visibility
- Social media spotlights and features that encourage residents and visitors to shop local
Capital Planning & Improvements
JSRC has a long history of investing in transformative capital projects. In cooperation with the City of Jersey City, JSRC developed a $5.3 million Capital Improvement Plan that brought dramatic physical changes to Journal Square, including:
-
- A new pedestrian plaza
- A central fountain
- Modern lighting fixtures and street signs
- Brick-paved sidewalks and district landscaping
